Small Walk Around

Today I had quite a bit of errands to run and ended up walking quite a bit. (And on top of that, I went out for my separate walk before dinner, so definitely a ton of walking!)

So, here's a giant load of nature shots I took just today. And yes, some of them aren't that great, I admit. But it's the effort that counts? Or I guess not. :(

Challenge to Self

So I found this weekly online photo contest, where a theme is picked each week and people can submit their interpretation of the theme for the contest. (Sorry, I haven't read into it too much, found it randomly and a little blurry on the details)

This week's theme is "Stat!"

I'm not going to submit a link to the photo for the contest in the blog post, but just try and see if I can do this on my own. Rather than taking pictures of whatever, my goal is to try and come up with a photo by the end of the week (I'll make it this upcoming Saturday).

Reminds me just like old times in photo classes with our weekly themes! :P

Off To the City

Went into SF today, to go see Youn Frankenstein. I had initially planned to go to Relay for Life at Campbell, but had to cancel that at last second. :(

Yes, I'm trying my hand at food photography. Unfortunately, it's a little hard for my Nikon with depth of field and focus, so I get a lot of blurry pictures. :(

Over with Midterms

So yeah, I haven't been taking pictures (again), this time due to midterms for my summer class. :(

In Search of Nothing

Today was somewhat of a sunny day, but I didn't go out until it was cloudy. :(

Not that I hate the sun, it's just there were things that needed to get done, and by the time I remembered I needed to take pictures... well, grey skies.


But at the same time, I feel like I was able to get some decent shots because it was overcast. :)

PS: my debt is at 26!

Less Expensive Hobby?

Everyone has a budget, especially with hobbies... well, sometimes. So I found this blog article on how to do photography for cheap.

Aside from the picture of the home-made tripod making me laugh, it brought up some interesting points. The blogger mostly recommends using film camera, so you'll learn from your mistakes quicker, thanks for film development costs.

Unfortunately, I'll have to disagree there. True, film costs more, so you'll be careful with your frames to not waste them, but chemical and film costs can add up. When I did film photography back in high school, those $3 rolls of films (or was it $4?) per assignment quickly added up. Also, it was one roll per assignment, so we didn't have much of a second chance at learning from our mistakes for next time. Plus, there's a lot of techniques you can do when making prints that you can get by with having okay quality shots. That's just me.

On the other hand, natural lighting and shooting at free locations is true, especially when starting out. Not because it's cheap, but it's really good practice. Different lighting lets you practice with aperture, shutter speed, film speed, etc. And locations will help with image composition. But in the end, it's practice that improves one's skill. :)

July 4th Outing

Decided to get out and do something for the once-in-a-blue-moon holiday, which results in no summer school tomorrow! :P

Nothing too extravagant, just walked around the Berkeley Marina and then around 4th Street. There's actually no fire works pictures, since I felt tired of fireworks after seeing so much and taking so much at Disneyland a few weeks back. Surprising, but it's possible. (plus it was a little foggy, so didn't think it would be a clear view)

I'm actually a little sad that the focus is on the back fry and not the ones in the center :(

When our food came, we were really hungry, that I went for my Greek Burger, rather than the camera. Whoops :P

World Cup, Animal Style!

So in the spirit of the World Cup, I found a short photo essay of soccer + animals!

I think my favorite are the fish one and the penguin goal photos. And speaking of animals, this brings up the subject of animal photography. :P

To be honest, I haven't done as much animal photography as I wish I have. (unless you count the random squirrel shots I've taken) I don't own any pets, nor do I take pictures of pets on walks and such, I'm not as familiar with the subjects as I can. However, like a lot of other photography subjects, this especially requires patience. You can have a set shutterspeed and all, but focus can be an issue, since animals act however they want over what you'd want.

But at the same time, that's also the beauty of it. With patience, that perfect shot can come at any moment and it will be worth it!
